You can probably tell that we really believe in what we sell here at US Building Products. Not just because they’re all built right here in the United States, but because they’re also a high quality product. Everything we sell in our online store, we keep in our brick and mortar office. Our PCA Screen Door, specifically, is what protects our wooden front door from our Valley Forge-like winters.

One thing you can count on in the Susquehanna Valley of Upstate New York is a lot of wind. While we’re accustomed to wearing hats, scarves, boots, and winter jackets, it’s much more difficult to dress a building for seasonal weather – which is why we leave it up even over the Summer. A PCA Door’s main defense against strong gusts of wind is the Albright or Tasman Door Handle.

Most screen doors are hung on 2 or 3 hinges, much like a typical entryway door. This works for heavy wooden doors, but it can be the death of a screen door. When a door is fitted on only smaller hinges, the hinges are more likely to warp and bend if the door is left open in the wind. PCA saw this problem and decided to do something about it. After all, their doors are supposed to be “the last screen door you’ll ever buy”, and that should apply to most of the structural hardware as well. In response, PCA decided to use a ‘Piano Hinge’ – a hinge that spans the entire height of a door for added strength and durability. No more sagging screen doors. The Piano Hinge also reduces squeaking when operating the door, as well as providing a cleaner appearance by running the full length of the screen door.

Should you choose some PCA French Doors, you’ll still be able to use a Piano Hinge and our Albright Handle or Tasman Handle, you’ll just need PCA’s patented astragal. A PCA French Screen Door is just as secure as a single PCA Door with PCA’s no-post astragal system. The two door panels simply lock into one-another with two locking pegs which go deep into each door’s frame, meaning they’ll never separate unless you do so yourself.

To recap, the Albright Handle and Tasman Handle should leave your door locked and latched even in very strong winds.
